April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services reports that Child Protective Services investigated more than 168,164 allegations of child abuse or neglect in Texas last year. According to their reports, for Texas in 2014, 151 children died at the hands of a parent or other caregiver; 66,572 children were found to be victims of abuse or neglect; and more than 17,378 children had to be removed from their homes for their own protection.
